Lectures & Symposia
Monthly Lectures
NINO organizes monthly lectures on various subjects that are related to the fields of research at the institute. The lectures are usually in Dutch and are held on Thursdays or Fridays at 15.00 in the National Museum of Antiquities (RMO), Rapenburg 28, Leiden. After the lectures, NINO offers refreshments.
N.B.: starting in October 2009, those who attend lectures in the Museum are kindly requested to have an entry ticket to the Museum. Holders of a Museumkaart and RoMeO members are entitled to a free entry ticket to the Museum.
For an overview of upcoming NINO lectures, see our online calendar.
Veenhof Lecture
In addition to these monthly lectures, NINO also organizes the annual Veenhof Lecture, in cooperation with the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden (RMO). The Veenhof Lectures were established in honor of Klaas Veenhof, who retired in May 2002 as Professor of Assyriology at Leiden University.
The Veenhof Lecture 2008 was preceded by a small (Dutch-language) symposium to celebrate the 50 year anniversary of the Netherlands Institute in Turkey (NIT).
Dr. Peter Jablonka (present excavator of Çatalhöyük / Troy) gave the Veenhof Lecture 2008 on Saturday, 22 November at the National Museum of Antiquities, Leiden: "Troy - Archaeology, History, Legend".
