NINO Fieldwork Subsidy

NINO Fieldwork Subsidies are geared towards supporting initiatives that contribute to the development and organisation of archaeological research in the Middle East, and of relevant infrastructure.

Once every year NINO grants two Fieldwork Subsidies of max. € 5000 each, to fieldwork projects in Near Eastern Archaeology, Assyriology (incl. Hittitology), and/or Egyptology (incl. Coptology). Our aim is to provide limited financial support to starting or smaller projects.

Proposed projects should be innovative, restricted to max. two years, and directed or co-directed by researchers affiliated to Dutch scholarly institutions. Pilots for larger projects (to be funded by other parties) are eligible.

The application should clearly indicate why funding from NINO is sought as opposed to other subsidy-givers.

The applicant should make clear how their research project makes a contribution to Egyptology (including Coptology), Assyriology (including Hittitology), and/or Near Eastern archaeology.

Successful applicants will present the results of their project as a public NINO lecture in due course.
