NINO Fieldwork Subsidy

NINO Fieldwork Subsidies are geared towards supporting initiatives that contribute to the development and organisation of archaeological research in the Middle East, and of relevant infrastructure.

Once every year NINO grants two Fieldwork Subsidies of max. € 10,000 each, to fieldwork projects in Near Eastern Archaeology, Assyriology (incl. Hittitology), and/or Egyptology (incl. Coptology). Our aim is to provide substantial financial support to starting projects with the potential of renewal.

Proposed projects should be innovative and directed or co-directed by researchers affiliated to Dutch scholarly institutions. Pilots for larger projects (to be funded by other parties) are also eligible.

The application should clearly indicate why funding from NINO is sought as opposed to other subsidy-givers and incorporate a vision on NINO’s contribution to and participation in the prospective project.

The applicant should also make clear how their research project makes a contribution to Egyptology (including Coptology), Assyriology (including Hittitology), and/or Near Eastern archaeology.

Successful applicants will present the results of their project in due course as a public NINO lecture, a workshop organized at NINO or another suitable form.
